Sample Required:
The test does not require any specific sample to be collected beforehand. Ultrasonography Guided FNAC is a procedure that involves obtaining a tissue sample for cytological examination.
Test Time:
The test duration may vary depending on the complexity and number of lesions being sampled. Generally, the procedure takes around 15 to 30 minutes to complete.
Test Normal Range:
Ultrasonography Guided FNAC is not a diagnostic test with a normal or abnormal range. Instead, it provides tissue samples that are subsequently analyzed by a pathologist for diagnosis.
What is the test?
Ultrasonography Guided FNAC is a minimally invasive diagnostic procedure used to obtain tissue samples from suspicious lumps, masses, or lesions detected during an ultrasound examination. The samples collected through FNAC are analyzed by a pathologist to determine if the tissue is benign, malignant, or inconclusive.
Test Procedure:
During the procedure, the patient lies down, and the ultrasound machine is used to locate the target lesion accurately. A fine needle attached to a syringe is then inserted through the skin under ultrasound guidance to collect tissue samples. The needle is usually moved back and forth several times to obtain an adequate sample. Once collected, the tissue sample is placed on a glass slide and sent to the laboratory for cytological examination.
When to take the test?
Ultrasonography Guided FNAC is performed when there are suspicious or abnormal findings detected on an ultrasound scan, such as a lump in the breast, thyroid nodules, enlarged lymph nodes, or other superficial masses.
Who should take this test?
Individuals with abnormal ultrasound findings or palpable lumps/masses in the body that require further evaluation may be recommended to undergo Ultrasonography Guided FNAC.
Precautions for exceptional cases (pregnancy, etc.):
In pregnant individuals or those with specific medical conditions, the benefits and risks of Ultrasonography Guided FNAC will be carefully evaluated. The procedure may be avoided during pregnancy unless it is deemed essential for diagnosis or treatment.
