What is the Test?
The CD3, CD4, and CD8 Count Test is a blood test that measures the number and proportion of specific types of white blood cells called T lymphocytes (T cells). It assesses the absolute counts of CD3-positive T cells, CD4-positive T cells (often referred to as helper T cells), and CD8-positive T cells (often referred to as cytotoxic T cells).
Test Procedure:
A healthcare provider will draw a blood sample from a vein, typically from the arm. The blood sample is sent to a laboratory where it is processed. Flow cytometry is commonly used to analyze the blood sample. In this method, the blood cells are stained with antibodies that bind specifically to CD3, CD4, and CD8 molecules.
